Top Brisnet Speed Ratings of 2013
By Dana Byerly, Hello Race Fans Co-founder

We tracked the top Brisnet Speed Ratings weekly through 2013 and, just like last year, it’s time to take a look at the top winning ratings!

Cigar Street topped this year’s Brisnet Speed Ratings with 115 in the Grade 3 Skip Away Stakes at Gulfstream Park. Bright Thought (Grade 2 San Luis Rey Stakes), Delaunay (Duncan F. Kenner Stakes) and Fort Larned (Grade 1 Stephen Foster) were next, each scoring a 114. This year’s top number fell a bit short of last year’s top rating: Flat Out’s 117 in the 2012 Jockey Club Gold Cup, but overall there were some interesting differences from last year.

By Distance
It should be no surprise that the sprint distance of 6-furlongs on the dirt was the most productive distance again this year. Unlike last year the route distances of 9, 10 and 12-furlongs made up the majority of high ratings with a whopper 10 12-furlong turf performances making the list.

Key = Distance in furlongs – number of performances at distance (surface). D = Dirt, S = Synthetic, T = Turf).
If all performances were over a single surface, only the surface is noted. If the performances were over different surfaces, they are noted by number of performances and surface.

5.5 F – 2 (D)
6 F – 17 (16 D, 1 S)
6.5 F – 2 (D)
7 F – 4 (3 D, 1 S)
