Summer may be over, but the fun is just getting started
By Dana Byerly, Hello Race Fans Co-founder
Are you missing Saratoga and Del Mar? So are we, but fear not, racing goes on! As the racing calendar turns to the fall meets of Belmont, Churchill, Keeneland, Kentucky Downs and Santa Anita all eyes start to focus on the Breeders’ Cup. As in previous years, videographer, horseplayer and all around funny guy Ernie Munick will take us on a journey through the final preparations to the 2014 Breeders’ Cup.
Here’s his latest installment on closing weekend at Saratoga:
You can keep up with his weekly installments by checking the Breeders’ Cup Challenge site or following the Breeders’ Cup YouTube channel.
If you’re looking to get in the mood for the Breeders’ Cup, be sure to check our Three Great Moments series that looks at three potentially overlooked great performances of Breeders’ Cup past for the original races (Classic, Distaff, Mile, Turf, Sprint, Juvenile and Juvenile Fillies). Each installment features a recap of the great moment, a replay and Brisnet.com charts and lifetime past performances where available.
And if you want to get in the mood for your own personal best, be sure to check out our Breeders’ Cup Best Score posts, where some of our contributors regale you with stories of their best BC bragging rights. Pick 4 players may also take special interest in this post regarding the average payout for the Breeders’ Cup Pick 4 (hint: it’s a lot!).
And, in the “it’s never too early to start thinking about the Derby and Oaks” department, we’ve published the recently released 2015 Kentucky Derby and Oaks prep schedules!
This weekend Derby and Oaks hopefuls will start earning points towards the first Friday and Saturday in May. After each race we will list the winner and add a Brisnet.com chart to make it easy for you keep up with all the contenders as the trail unfolds. Check back often on those posts as not all of the dates are final, we’ll update them as tracks release their winter and spring schedules.
See, despite the end of summer racing, there’s plenty to look forward to!
Sorry, no fun to be had in California. Just a steady diet of unplayable short fields until Del Mar opens again.
Hi Nancy, I only play California stakes races (for the most part, sometimes I’ll dig into the card if I’m already playing a few races) but there’s no denying that transitioning to “regular racing” after Del Mar or Saratoga is tough, especially for anyone who plays regularly. The Belmont fall meet hasn’t been too bad in the recent past but it’s still not anywhere near the fun of Saratoga. At any rate, thanks for stopping by!
