Get Ready to Tune In
By Dana Byerly, Hello Race Fans Co-founder

Over the years many racing fans and horseplayers have bemoaned the lack of horseplayers on television, especially in comparison to poker. Well, the days of anonymous horseplay are over as the fledgling (or at least newly rebranded!) Esquire Network introduces it’s latest original content, HorsePlayers.

Take a look…

The series will follow a group of horseplayers as they try to qualify for the National Handicapping Championship (NHC). In addition to introducing its audience to the ins and outs of handicapping and wagering strategy, the show will no doubt feature the wide array of wild and wonderful race track personalities in addition to the “colorful” main characters.

Some of the players might be familiar to regular readers of Hello Race Fans! Pete Rotondo of Team Rotondo was kind enough to share his thoughts on what makes horse racing so fun and satisfying in one of our first series, Letter to New Horseplayer. He also shared his (fantastic!) Breeders’ Cup Best Score story, which naturally involved Team Rotondo!

If it’s advice on tournament play you’re looking for, look no further than our interview with 2011 NHC Champion Michael Beychok, who shares invaluable tips on the art of contest handicapping.

We’re excited for the new series and hope you are too, so tune starting this Tuesday at 10pm ET to the Esquire Network and #gethot! (check your local listings…).

You can also follow the official Twitter feed for the show: @horseplayers. And if you’re not already, follow us at @helloracefans as we’ll be tweeting along with the show for the east coast viewing!
