Belmont Profiles
By Dana Byerly, Hello Race Fans Co-founder
A great way to learn about racing is to learn about its history. There are certainly plenty of ways to go about this! For our purposes today, I wanted to highlight a few horse profiles that we have that are have some Belmont Stakes significance.
And the winner is…
Afleet Alex
He’s most well known for this incredible win in the Preakness, but his seven length Belmont win was no slouch either.
Easy Goer
The dasher of 1989 Triple Crown dreams also went on to have a spectacular post-Belmont career. There’s no doubt that several of the 2012 Belmont Stakes contenders can and will go on to great things.
Family Ties…
Better Than Honour
From a breeding perspective it’s hard to think of the Belmont Stakes without thinking of Better Than Honour, dam of 2006 winner Jazil and 2007 winner Rags to Riches.
Invasor
The 2006 Horse of the Year is the sire of long-shot 2012 entry Five Sixteen. The jury is still out about Invasor’s terrific racing form transferring to the breeding barn. Perhaps will learn a bit more this weekend!
Grudge Match…
Affirmed vs. Alydar
Too bad Bodemeister isn’t entered in this year’s Belmont Stakes.
Sunday Silence vs. Easy Goer
The Triple Crown was not their only meeting.
