2012 Woodward Stake Recap with Ernie Munick
This week’s Fantasy Capping race is the Grade 1 Woodward Stakes at Saratoga for horses 3-year-olds and up at 1 1/8 mile over the main track. The Woodward has been won by the eventual Horse of the Year 26 times since it’s first running in 1954, including the only two fillies to win the race – Rachel Alexandra (2009) and Havre de Grace (2011).
This year’s rendition is a small field that includes a logical contender for Horse of the Year (Mucho Macho Man), a few that have yet to step-up this year on the big stage (To Honor and Serve, Stay Thirsty, Rule and Gourmet Dinner) and a couple of interesting longshots (Trickmeister and Cease). Who does Ernie Munick, our current Charity League leader, like?
