Week of June 28, 2010
By Dana Byerly, Hello Race Fans Co-founder

It was a great weekend of racing with another one on its way this week. At Prairie Meadows several track records fell in the Iowa Festival of Racing, including Majestic Perfection in the Iowa Sprint and Concord Point in the Iowa Derby. Kentucky Derby entrant Devil May Care made a nice come back easily winning the Grade 1 Mother Goose at Belmont. The Coaching Club American Oaks and Alabama at Saratoga are next up for Devil May Care according to Todd Pletcher.

Promising 3-year-old filly Seeking the Title, who had bad luck in the Black-eyed Susan and was shuffled wide in the Acorn, took a positive step forward in the Iowa Oaks. According to her owner she’ll also be pointing toward the Coaching Club Oaks, which is the next leg of the Triple Tiara.

Perhaps the best race of the weekend, and one of the best of the year so far, was the Debutante Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Churchill. Each of the top three finishers ran an incredibly impressive race and fortunately a replay was available! And last but not least, Desert Party made his 4-year-old debut a winning one at Philadelphia Park. His stablemate, Regal Ransom, is pointing to the Suburban this coming weekend.

In honor of the upcoming holiday weekend, we’re going to have our first handicapping contest! And the prize is a substantial one, we’ll have more details on Wednesday but the races are the Salvatore Mile and United Nations at Monmouth Park! This week we’ll have a handicapping piece on turf pedigrees and look at the Ten Things You Should Know about the United Nations Stakes. We’ll also do our picks for the Salvatore Mile, United Nations, Suburban and a few others!

Make sure to check out our flickr gallery. Not only do we have some gorgeous shots from races this weekend, but shots from morning workouts!
