By Dana Byerly, Hello Race Fans Co-founder

Paddy O’Prado made a smooth transition back to turf and proved that he’s one serious race horse. Look for him to next in the Virginia Derby at Colonial Downs as he preps for the Breeders’ Cup. Several other Triple Crown contenders raced this past weekend with mixed results. Jackson Bend and Schoolyard Dreams were off the board in the Pegasus Stakes at Monmouth Park and Alphie’s Bet was third in the Affirmed Stakes at Hollywood Park. Triple Crown hopeful Aikenite also made a successful comeback in allowance company at a much more suitable distance. According to the Daily Racing Form his next stop might be the Jim Dandy, Haskell or West Virginia Derby.

Meanwhile, the Pegasus and Affirmed were won by first time stakes winners Afleet Express and Golden Itiz. Last but not least, two time Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Goldikova held off a hard charging Paco Boy in the Queen Anne stakes at Royal Ascot earlier in the week. Look for her to try to three-peat in the Breeder’s Cup in the fall.

This week we’ll have a Ten Things You Should Know about the Mother Goose Stakes and a look at how to consider consider class when factoring Beyer Speed Figures. We’re also gearing up for our first ever handicapping contest that will take place on July 4th weekend! Stay tuned for details, including a nice big prize!
