By Dana Byerly, Hello Race Fans Co-founder

Did you play the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Classic? Of course you did! In case you missed the payouts you can find them in the race chart along with the full order of finish:

Payouts below are listed for a $2 wager except where noted. So, if you played $5 to win on Bayern you would multiply the payout times 2.5. If you had a $10 wager you multiply the payout by 5 (you get the picture).

2014 Breeders’ Cup Classic Payouts
Bayern: $14.20 to win, $8.00 to place, $5.20 to show
Toast of New York: $18.00 to place, $10.80 to show
California Chrome: $5.40 to show

$2 Exacta (7-9): $249.80
$2 Trifecta (7-9-13): $2,086.96
$1 Superfecta (7-9-13-6): $3,871.74
$.50 Super High Five (7-9-13-6-11): $4,339.10

Multi-race Exotics:
$2 Daily Double (14-7): $556.00
$1 Classic/Distaff Double (10-7): $24.75
$.50 Pick 3 (13-14-7): $2,554.30
$.50 Pick 4 (12-13-14-7): $18,335.35
$2 Pick 6 (16-7-2-13-14-7) 6 of 6: Carryover (no one hit it)
$2 Pick 6 (16-7-2-13-14-7) 5 of 6: $114,472.00

And now to answer some of the more reoccurring questions…
“$5 trifecta payout 2014 Breeders’ Cup Classic” = $5,217.40
“$10 bet to win on Bayern” = $72.00
“$2 across the board on Bayern” = $27.40
“$2 2014 Breeders’ Cup Classic exacta box payout” = $249.80

Another item of note, the multi-race exotics pay the same regardless of whether you play them straight or box them.

  • I am new to horse racing. I placed one of my bets on this race early and had to leave before I saw the results. I have a trifecta part wheel on the BC Classic but I don’t know if its a winner or not. Can anyone tell me if it is so I don’t waste a trip back down to the race track to check it there?

    My ticket reads: TRI P/W

    7+9+11/6+13/6+13

so I have all the horses that won but im not sure if it’s a winner because of the part wheel. Thanks

  • Hi Jimmy – if I’m reading this correctly you would have needed the following to cash:

Bayern (7), Toast of New York (9) or Tonalist (11) in the first position (you had this as Bayern (7) finished first)
Shared Belief (6) or California Chrome (13) in the second position (you did not have this as Toast of New York (9) came in second)
Shared Belief (6) or California Chrome (13) in the third position (you had this as California Chrome (13) came in third)

I think you did not have it (SO close, great job putting the right horses together!) but I’m going to run this by a few more people just to make sure. Thanks for stopping by!

  • Thanks! I thought so myself buy just wanted to make sure. Had a great time and got to see so many races. Alot of people were surprised to see some longshots come through…especially on the BC Mile. Will certainly be back again next year and will no doubt be better with exotic wagers…what a rush!!!

  • Glad to hear you had a great time, and that you’ll be back!

I did confirm with another player that you didn’t end up with a winning ticket, next time!

  • If I got The first, second, and third places horses correct on my superfecta ticket is it a winner breeders cup classic race 12?

  • Oh, by the way, I had (11) Tonalist in the fourth spot. Thanks, David.

  • as far as I know, in past years all the money in the breeders’ cup pic six pool (less takeout) was paid out that day — if no one had six winners, the pool was shared by bettors who had five.

this year no one picked six, and most of the pool was carried over to the next day (when santa anita did have a mandatory payout because it was the last day of the meet.)

when did the rules change? the breeders’-cup day mandatory payout was an important part of the day’s excitement.

  • Hi David – Unfortunately not, you need to have all four horses for the superfecta, but solid ‘capping ending up with the top three! Thanks for stopping by.

  • Hi Frederick – That’s a very good question. I will have to do some digging to try to find the answer. I also agree that the mandatory payout is part of the excitement.

  • Hi again Frederick – I found some more information on the BC P6:

I’m not sure if it’s true, but one of the commenters indicated that Keeneland, host of next year’s BC, will not race on Sunday so there should be a mandatory payout. I guess we’ll have to wait and see!
