2011 Breeders’ Cup Picks Friday

Saturday Picks

Full Card Chart – results and payouts (pdf)

In addition to our picks for each Breeders’ Cup race, our friends at WirePlayers have challenged us to friendly a head to head challenge! Each team (HRF & WirePlayers) will do picks as usual (see below), with each selection getting points for win, place show:

Win = 5 points, Place = 2 points and Show = 1 point.

Here’s an example, let’s say that in the Juvenile Sprint, Shumoos wins, Trinniberg places and Sum of the Parts shows. That would mean HRF would 15 points (2 wins, 2 places, 1 show). You can see WirePlayers selections here and follow along with my running commentary at @helloracefans.

Whoever has the most points for the two days wins and the losers will donate $100 to the charity of the winner’s choice. WirePlayers has selected After the Finish Line and we’ve selected ReRun. Best of luck to everyone and check out our Ladies Classic and Classic Cheat Sheets if you’re not familiar with the fields!

Note: Teresa Genaro has graciously stepped down from scoring in the the Head to Head Challenge to ensure the teams are even… no doubt this means you should play her picks!

Hello fellow race fans! If you could suggest how one might’ve picked Musical Romance or Perfect Shirl, I would be very appreciative for the education. Good luck on Saturday!

Well, hindsight is always 20/20, but looking back at the PPs Perfect Shirl ran huge last out against a very talented mare (Never Retreat) and her two efforts prior to that weren’t bad. Also notable is that horses coming out of Woodbine tend to well on the turf in the BC (Stephanie’s Kitten, More Than Real last year off the top of my head).

As for Musical Romance, she also has had two good prior efforts and has been very consistent since the spring. I would imagine that despite the fact that she’s won on dirt that her last two preps on poly lended to her being overlooked. But look who beat her last out, Holiday for Kitten. She runs in the Turf Sprint today, and Musical Romance running huge validates her prior effort.

Best of luck today, will be interesting to see if there are any other big prices, if so I hope you have them! (and me too… lol).
