Week of July 12, 2010
By Dana Byerly, Hello Race Fans Co-founder
Proving that patience is key, seven-year-old Awesome Gem won his first Grade 1 by upsetting heavily favored Rail Trip in the Hollywood Gold Cup. He’s put together a string of four out of five in the money performances this year and provided David Flores with his third Hollywood Gold Cup win. Gio Ponti scored his second Man o’War victory and put an end to his losing streak while Blind Luck continued her impressive photo-finish wins in the Delaware Oaks.
This week we’ll take a closer look how to use and factor race replays and continue our look at pedigree handicapping with a piece on all-weather surface breeding. We’ll also look at Ten Things You Should Know about the Delaware Handicap.
Coming up this weekend in racing, Paddy o’Prado and Stately Victor meet at Colonial Downs again in the Virginia Derby. Interactif, Two Notch Road, Krypton, Majestictroubadour, Awesome Dream and Formulaforsuccess join them. Sidney’s Candy, who hasn’t races since the Kentucky Derby, gets back to business in Swaps at Hollywood Park. Other probable starters include Golden Itiz, Skipshot and Alphie’s Bet.
