Week of August 2, 2010
By Dana Byerly, Hello Race Fans Co-founder
Stepping-up seemed to be the theme of this past weekend with Proviso proving she’s more than a miler in Filly & Mare turf division and Lookin at Lucky emphatically and easily cruising to the top of the 3-year-old division. A Little Warm made a nice showing in the Jim Dandy as did Get Serious in the Oceanport. Thinking back to the Derby and Oaks trail, Winslow Homer, winner of the Holy Bull, finally got back to business, crushing the field in the Curlin Stakes, promising 3-year-old filly It’s Tea Time showed her class in a confidence building allowance race and Ranger Heartley, winner of the Cal Derby, also won a confidence building allowance race at Del Mar .
The highlight of summer for the handicap division is upon us this week as Quality Road and Blame finally meet up in Whitney. We’ll have a Ten Things You Should Know about the Whitney that will feature an extensive photo gallery, including the winners back to the 80s!
One of the most frequent searches that lead people to Hello Race Fans! is “how to handicap” or “how to read a racing program”. We’ll start to address those questions with a post later on this week. Well, we’ll answer questions with more questions… you’ll see!
And, in other exciting news this week, Zenyatta returns to the track in hopes of capturing her third Clement L Hirsch and 18th consecutive win! The NTRA will webcast the race live!
