By this time next week another rendition of the Oaks and Derby will have come and gone, but in the meantime it’s time to enjoy one of the most media-tastic weeks in horse racing: Derby/Oaks week! The trade outlets, such as Blood-Horse, Brisnet, Daily Racing Form and Thoroughbred Times, will have excellent wall to wall coverage. And our friends at Horse Racing Nation also have quite a bit going on.
We’ve also got plenty of fun lined up for this week starting with a look at how Derby favorites have fared through the years. With yesterday’s news of Eskendereya dropping out of the Derby, this year isn’t off to the best start for favorites! Tomorrow we’ll have two looks at the Oaks, how Oaks runners have done in the classics and how they’ve fared in their careers after the Oaks.
Wednesday is the post position draw for the Derby and we’ll bring you our Top 5 Favorite Derbies by way HRF Index and a look at the man (and filly!) that launched the Kentucky Derby from just another race into the power-house American institution it is today. Thursday we’ll bring you some handicapping insights with a look how to consider pedigree for the Derby and how running style and post position intersect for the 2010 Kentucky Derby.
And finally, at the end of the week we’ll share our picks for both the Oaks card and Derby card along with our general wagering strategies. If you missed any prep races or our handicapping posts from last week, there’s still time to ramp up!
And in other news, reigning Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra makes her second start of the year on Friday on the Oaks card in the La Troienne. Could she be a single on your multi-race tickets? (Update: we hope you spread in the La Troienne!)
